What made your body tense up today? What made it feel at ease?

If you’re one of the many people who have no idea what the answer to this question might be, you’re letting important information pass you by: Clues about what matters to you or what is draining you.

We’re so much more than our brains, yet our culture is quite stuck on looking for answers purely by thinking. I see it in my clients all the time: how difficult it is to let go of thoughts and ruminations to tap into what’s going on in the body.

Here’s the thing: The body often knows what your brain chooses not to see. It might react with tension to that thing you’ve always told yourself you ‘should like’. It might not be able to stand what society regards as your 'great job'.

Martha Beck, the coach and author, stresses how our nervous system has evolved over millions of years, with sophisticated fine-tuning, while our prefrontal cortex (the part of the brain that is typically involved in rational reasoning) is a far more recent development.

Of course it’s all connected in one human being – so why are you only seeking knowledge from one part of yourself? There’s so much more to discover, if you start getting curious about what’s there. Noticing is the first step. Tune in and see what you can detect.
