What do you choose to hide your fear behind?

ree

So many people would like to make changes in their lives, but something – typically fear – is stopping them. The way they mask this fear is often unconscious and can be quite ingenious.

  • I hear people say, with voices that carry no confidence, that ‘things really are pretty good’, that they ‘shouldn’t complain’ and ‘others have it worse’. (Sure, but how are YOU doing?)

  • Others stop themselves from change by doing: Forgetting even small steps that could steer them down the path they’d like to walk or shooting themselves in the foot with habitual activities that seem right in the moment but soon makes them miserable. (Habits feel safe, but is it what you want?)

  • Some choose to turn to explanations about how it’s really quite understandable that they aren’t doing anything, given what has happened before. (That’s fine – but what do you want to do NOW? )

Then there are those who may appear to know exactly where they’re going but are screaming with insecurity inside, or those who talk and talk, almost as a shield against the real urge to stop and think.

Behind every avoidance tactic, there’s fear or worry. But there’s also unfulfilled longing for something different and more fulfilling. So, what’s the longing you’re scared to allow?

If you find yourself in avoidance-land, you’ll know something’s not quite right. A coach can help straighten it out. I, or any well-trained coach, will support you completely in discovering what you’re hiding from yourself and moving towards what you really want, whatever that looks like. We’ll likely start by calling your bluff. 😊

It can be scary to face the fear of change, but you don’t have to do it alone.
