Right, wrong - or just different?

What happens when you’re arguing you're right and others wrong? Whether with colleagues, friends or partners, have you noticed how often it only leads to frustration for everyone?

It's most obvious when it comes to opinions, of course. But even if your rational arguments are convincing, the relationship often suffers if you haven’t paused to see what the other person's point of view is about. Take a pass at this: Next time someone thinks or wants something different than you do, stop the urge to argue your point and start by understanding and accepting that others see it differently. It can be easier said than done, so experiment in a less-heated context first. See what you find.
I love this quote from Rumi: “Out there beyond rightdoing and wrongdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” What could happen if we did meet there, less hung up on arguing we’re right and more open to exploring and understanding?
