Will AI bring the human back?

What will AI do to plain old voice calling? Perhaps put it back in fashion? If the human-ness of communication can be questioned, might we move towards wanting something more 'real' to trust that it's authentic?
Some months ago, I was pondering whether a few messages I received were created with AI assistance. When Meta AI turned up in WhatsApp, these thoughts came to the fore again. I don't doubt that my friends write their own messages, but how can I be certain with those I know less well?

The point is, I tend to trust others and I'd like to continue that way. But although I don't like these seeds of doubt in my mind, there's space for healthy scepticism. There are increasing question marks around how long to continue a text-based conversation with someone you don't know well, I think. So could this whole intelligent automation of communication mean we want more of the real thing - and, in turn, usher in more real human communication?
Good old voice calls not only show that there's a real human on the other end (at least, in most cases, for now). They add a whole range of additional information that helps us understand each other: tone of voice, emphasis, reflective pauses, interactions in the moment that stop ruminations around what the answer may be when it arrives. They're more human.
A return to what's more human would be a marvellous AI silver lining - unless, of course, the preference is ultimately for my bot to talk to yours. What do you reckon?
